On Thursday, March 8, 2024, a significant event took place in the town of Mutimbuzi, in the Rukaramu displaced persons' site. It was the inaugural edition of Tabitha Day, named after a remarkable disciple mentioned in the Bible. Tabitha, also known as Dorcas, was renowned for her abundant good works and acts of charity (Acts 9:36). The event aimed to honor her legacy and promote the spirit of generosity within the community.
The opening ceremony of Tabitha Day was marked by the distribution of clothing to those in need. A total of 93 individuals benefited from this generous offering, providing them with much-needed warmth and comfort. The organization responsible for organizing this event, Rajedes Burundi, expressed heartfelt gratitude to YWAM Burundi for their invaluable support.
Tabitha Day is more than just a one-time event; it is a movement that seeks to make a lasting impact on the lives of others. In recognition of its success, plans are already underway for the second edition, which will be held in Gitaramuka, in the Muha commune, specifically in the Kanyosha zone.
(Acts 9:36-40). "36, Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did.37, And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. 38, And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. 39, Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. 40, But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up."
The overarching goal of Tabitha Day is to inspire individuals to follow in the footsteps of Tabitha, embracing a life of selflessness and compassion. By engaging in acts of service and charity, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of those around us. The event serves as a reminder of the power of kindness and the transformative effect it can have on individuals and communities.
As we look forward to the second edition of Tabitha Day, let us remember the words of the scripture, this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did May we strive to emulate the example set by Tabitha, spreading kindness and making a positive impact in our own communities. Together, we can continue to build a world where acts of generosity and compassion are celebrated and cherished.
